Hair Restoration

Platelet Rich Plasma
Growth Factors
Low-level Light Therapy

What is it?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a serum derived from your own whole blood that contains high concentrations of platelets, growth factors and cytokines. It is injected into areas of the scalp to promote hair growth.

PRP has additional applications in cosmetic dermatology, specifically with skin rejuvenation, hyper-pigmentation, acne scarring, wrinkles and stretch marks. It is also used to accelerate healing related to musculoskeletal conditions.

How does it work?

A sample of blood is drawn and the specimen collected is spun in a centrifuge to separate components of the whole blood. The isolated PRP layer is removed and injected into the scalp.

The alpha granules within the platelets support stem cell regeneration  of hair follicles and soft tissue remodeling. PRP alpha granules also contain various growth factors that promote hair regrowth.

Stem cell differentiation of hair follicles promotes and prolongs the active growth phase of the hair follicles. It also acts to inhibit pathways that lead to hair loss and assists in the development of new blood vessels that support the hair follicle.

What should I expect?

Downtime is minimal. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour, including the time needed to draw a blood sample and prep the scalp with topical numbing cream. Results are typically seen within 6 weeks. We recommend monthly injections until an observable improvement in hair thickness is seen, followed by maintenance treatments approximately every 3 to 6 months.
